Where California's Outdoor Lovers Love to Stay

For the past 18 years, the Kern River Inn has offered modern, warm and comfortable guest rooms on the banks of the Kern River. Each room features a private bathroom, spa showers or a fireplace and a magnificent river view. The relaxed and comfortable atmosphere of the gathering room is enhanced by a large fireplace and good conversation. Combine the appointments of the Inn with Virginia's famous "eye opening" breakfasts and you have the perfect start to a beautiful time in the mountains.

Kernville is a unique town nestled in the Southern Sierra Nevada mountains about 3 hours north of Los Angeles and 5 hours from San Diego. The Kern River Valley offers year around recreational activities on both the Kern River and Lake Isabella. With the river emptying into Lake Isabella down the road, nearby activities include whitewater rafting, kayaking, fishing, water skiing, windsurfing and jet skiing are among some of the water sports available. Additional activities include golf, hiking, mountain biking, gold panning and rock climbing. Short scenic drives include the High Country, the Trail of a Hundred Giants, Dome Rock, the Needles and Sherman Pass overlook..

We stayed for one night in Kern River Inn en route from Sequoia to Death Valley. It was the perfect antidote to a very busy trip to date because we spent most of the time relaxing on the deck in the sunshine. The Inn is beautiful and the rooms are gorgeous (we stayed in the Greenhorn Room). Everything is spotless and comfortable and I really wish we had been able to stay two nights as it was such a great place. Virginia is a lovely host - we really enjoyed chatting with her after our delicious breakfast - she really adds a personal touch. Absolutely excellent overall and highly recommended. (July 4, 2012)
